Who Says Golfers Don’t Know How to Have Fun?

Click here to see the Golf Boys Video made for Charity, and “Oh, Oh, Oh,” so much fun!

See CNN article “Golf Boys Video”, by Will Tidey, for full story.

Professional golf is not normally thought of as a team sport, but in a somewhat unexpected move, a group of four PGA Tour players including world-ranked 44 Ben Crane, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Hunter Mahan, team up to form a boy band of all things! The quartet sings and dances in a hilarious spoof of a ‘90’s version of the Backstreet Boys for charity.

According to Tidey, “PGA Tour winner Crane, who was the driving force behind Golf Boys, has built a cult social media following over the last 12 months after uploading a host of comedy clips of himself,” and this video is no exception to Crane’s online success resulting in “attracting over a million views on YouTube since it went live on June 13.”

Golf is a game of etiquette in which a golfer monitors his own play. June 28, 2011 - Woods may not play in British Open.

News Flash:
Tiger, Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA

Unlike Rory McElroy’s statement from the article in Armagh News & Sport, it is not because Tiger does not like playing abroad or because he does not own property there.

Instead, Tiger is suffering from a leg injury that might cause him to “miss the next major championship, the British Open.” See the
Fox Sports site for original article.

Although Tiger Woods might miss the British Open, he does not seem to be in a hurry to return. Fox News has quoted Woods as saying he has “no timetable” for his return. Although Tiger also says he is not ready to think about taking it to the next level, which is surgery.

It is always fun to follow Tiger Woods; one thing never changes . . . where there is Tiger there is drama!

McElroy Shuns next Year’s US Tour

According to
Armagh News & Sport
Rory McElroy joins world’s leader, Lee Westwood, stating he would rather play in Europe than play the US Tour next year.

McElroy says “I found myself in America, especially in the FedEx Cup play-off series, just not wanting to be there, especially on the golf course.”

As an American, I can say that I am quite disappointed in McElroy’s current decision. After all the bad press the honorable game of golf received this year, it is nice to see some talented, young professional golfers excelling at the sport.

Although, McElroy did state that it might be easier for him to play in the states if he owned property in the US, for now he stands by his decision to play abroad for the majority of next year. I can only say, I hope you change your mind Rory, this is one American who loves watching you play and would like to see you play with the Majors again next year!

Honor and Integrity

“Promises Kept.” See: Yahoo! NEWS for AP Story, written by: Pat Eaton–Robb, Sunday Jun 26, 2011

Fredrik Jacobson won his first PGA Tour title in the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut on Sunday. Jacobson shot a 4-under 66; he finished with a one-stroke victory over John Rollins and Ryan Moore.

Remember, when Lee Trevino played 72 holes without a bogey in the Greater New Orleans Open? Well, no one has done it since, and that was Jacobson’s goal. His dream almost became reality. Jacobson had 63 consecutive bogey-free holes, but had issues on the par-4 10th. “His second shot went right, ending up resting against the cart path, but after taking relief and pitching onto the green, he couldn't make a 12-foot putt for par.” After a mud ball, and a sidewinder, Jacobson recovered to win with an easy two-putt on 18.

Why was Fredrik Jacobson so determined to win you might ask. He wanted to win for one main reason, his precious 5-year-old daughter, Emmie. Jacobson promised her that he would win a trophy this year just “like the ones she saw other players holding up on TV. Promise kept,” wrote Pat Eaton from AP.

Jacobson was also quoted as saying I'm excited about...” winning, because “… I'm glad I'm not breaking that promise for her." Well as a golf spectator, I am glad to see promises being kept. Hopefully the honor and integrity we have come to admire and adore about the great game of golf continues to improve even if it only happens one stroke at a time! .
